Attitude makes a difference

As a professor at a university I have responsibility to eduate the young minds of tomorrw.  Currently, I have the honor of working with a number of athletes who play a variety of sports for the school teams.  They shared with me today that the first home game of the season, this past Saturday, didn’t go so well.  I made the argumet that the defeat, while frustrating, doesn’t need to define their participation in their life outside that arena.  Most agreed. Yet what was the problem that occurred on the field this past Saturday.  My stedents all agreed that it was the mental game.  That in the face of a team with superior skills, the morale quickly eroded ultimately affecting each team member’s execution.  How could this happen?  What’s more important, what can be done about it?

In life we frequently face similar challenges and come to regard our skills as inadequate weakenig morale, undermining our attitude. Success ultimately depends upon persistence regardless of what you believe others are doing.  We may not win in a particular moment, but when that becomes the excuse for not trying again, then we really have lost.

Holding a positive mental attitude has been talked about extensively in a variety of areas.  I’ll not be any different here.  I’ll acknowledge what so many others have said regarding the benefits to be gained by holding a positive mental attitude.  But I’d like to take your awareness, your tinking beyond the dualistic aspects of negative and positive thinking.  When people who are really successful experience a setback or defeat, they don’t let that define them. in fact, they will typically look at such circumstances as learning opportunities.  Stepping beyond the comparatively simple distinctions of negative and positive and looking at the whole we can achieve a different place from which to operate.  We are afforded the possibility of including in our plan of success the contrasting negative forces that so frequently deflate our enthusiasm and deflect us from our path toward success.

We can then know that who we’re being, as well as our attitudes make a difference in our achievement.  When applied to your marketing and traffic generation efforts, recognize that success doesn’t come overnight.  It will take time and effort.  Remain focused and seek the benefits contained in the whole of our exprience.  This will make holding a positive mental attitude easier and ultimately more productive.
